Engine Diagnostics & Repairs

We find the cause. Not just the code.

What's Included

Service, start to finish.

Generic scanners clear lights; factory tools find root causes. We use the same diagnostic platforms European dealers use — ISTA, XENTRY, ODIS, PIWIS — to read live data, actuate components, and pinpoint issues the first time.

Still deciding? Our frequently asked questions cover what European service actually costs, whether OEM parts are worth it, and how our pricing compares with the dealership.

  • 01 Factory-grade fault diagnosis
  • 02 Timing chain & belt service
  • 03 Valve cover, gasket & seal repair
  • 04 Turbo & direct-injection diagnosis
  • 05 Emissions & driveability repair
  • 06 Full engine rebuild consultations

When to bring it in

What you'll notice first.

A check engine light is a starting point, not a diagnosis:

Check engine light, steady

The car has stored a fault. Driveable, usually, but the code is a symptom — the job is finding what caused it.

Check engine light, flashing

A misfire severe enough to damage the catalytic converter. Pull over and call rather than driving it in.

Rough idle, or a stumble under load

Coils, injectors, carbon build-up, or a vacuum leak. On direct-injection engines carbon on the intake valves is a known pattern.

A rattle for a second or two at cold start

Worth checking promptly on chain-driven engines — timing chain tensioners and guides give warning before they fail.

Losing coolant with no visible leak

Points at something internal. Better diagnosed early and cheaply than late.

The European difference

Reading the car, not just the code

A generic code reader returns the same short list any parts shop can pull. Factory software — BMW ISTA, Mercedes XENTRY, Audi and VW ODIS, Porsche PIWIS — reaches every control module, shows live data, runs guided tests, and reveals faults a generic tool never sees.

That difference decides whether you replace the right part once or the wrong part twice. A misfire code names a cylinder, not a cause; the cause might be a coil, an injector, compression, or carbon.

Modern European engines pack turbocharging, direct injection, and variable valve timing into small displacements. It's efficient and quick, and it means several systems can produce the same symptom.

We serve Newburgh, New Windsor, Cornwall, Wallkill, Marlboro, Montgomery, and Washingtonville from the shop on Pierces Road in Newburgh.
